New Club in
Herts
A NEW bridge club
has started up in
the south of
Hertfordshire under
the apt title the
Ace of Herts.
The club, which
meets at the Rowley
Lane Sports
Association, Rowley
Lane, Arkley,
between Barnet and
Borehamwood, has
been started in
association with
England
International and
double Gold Cup
winner Neil Rosen.
He said: "Although I
am already involved
in running two
successful clubs,
the Acol in
Hampstead and the
Ace of Clubs in
Finchley, the
opportunity to
promote bridge in a
new area, Arkley,
was too good to
miss.
"The Ace of Herts is
very convenient for
places like
Borehamwood, Elstree
and Bushey, and we
hope to attract
players of all
standards.
"At the Ace of Herts,
we promise a really
friendly and
enjoyable game in a
nice, relaxing
venue, with
computer-dealt cards
and hand records at
the end.
"It is a nice
location, looking
out on sports
grounds, big enough
for 20 tables.
"We will guarantee a
partner for anyone
who turns up alone,
and even a buffet
lunch on Wednesdays.
"Anyone who comes
before the end of
May will get free
membership till
January 2008.
"Bridge is such a
wonderful game - we
want to do all we
can to spread and
promote it."
The club has been
running about five
tables at both its
Tuesday evening and
Wednesday 11am
sessions. Membership
so far comes mainly
from north London
and it is keen to
attract players from
across the south of
the county.
The Ace of Herts
charges £6 for a
session of bridge
and is affiliated to
the Hertfordshire
Bridge Association.
